DJ Brother Bren | Soulful. Groovy. Funky House. For the love of it.
The Origin
It started in 1991 with a stack of blank cassettes and a university common room. Mix tapes. Passed between friends, played at events, swapped like currency. That was the beginning of a music obsession that never really stopped.
I picked up the decks properly in 1997 — on the island of Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, of all places. Vinyl and CDs, learning by doing. Back in Dublin, I ended up on pirate radio station Nova 947fm alongside friends Niall Redmond, Jae Brown and Ronan O. That's where I was christened Brother Bren. Dublin has a way of naming you, and it sticks.
Through the years my taste evolved — progressive house, trance, and eventually landing exactly where I belong: soulful, groove-driven, funky house. Music that makes you move but also makes you feel something.
The Journey
From the early 2000s I mostly DJ'd at home or for friends. Vinyl gave way to CDs, CDs gave way to digital. Life got busy — career, family, building things. But the music never stopped playing in my head.
Then 2020 happened. Lockdown brought me back out. Facebook Live, living room sets, friends and strangers tuning in from their sofas. It reminded me why I started. The love of house music. The love of sharing it.
Now I'm back on the vinyl. Playing for the love of it.
"Life is a party. Enjoy it with good music."
